READING SPRINGS ETERNAL by Sarah Steinbacher
“Can I go play with Theo?” Luca begs.
“You only just got here!” says Memaw, laughing. “Oh, go on.”
As far back as they could remember, the two boys played
during Luca’s spring break trips. And this spring, they already had plans. All
winter they had exchanged letters with designs for a treehouse, but when Luca
steps into Theo’s room, he sees all their plans evaporate.
Theo sits on the bed with his leg propped up on a pillow
in a hard cast.
“Sorry I can’t help with the treehouse,” he says. “Maybe Ava
from next door can help.”
That night, Luca looks at his treehouse designs and pictures
from his previous spring adventures with Theo. And suddenly he knows just what
to do.
“What are you doing here?” Theo asks the next day.
“I’m bringing our spring treehouse adventure to you,” Luca says, as he opens Swiss Family Robinson.
